Researchers from the University of York fitted a thousand northern hairy wood ants with tiny radio receivers, in a world first at the National Trust’s Longshaw Estate in Derbyshire, UK. The aim is to find out how they communicate and travel between their complex nests. The results are assisting the National Trust in their management of the estate.
