This is one of a series of films highlighting the interesting stories surrounding famous old trees in the beautiful East Devon countryside. The films are available on DVD for showing at community centres.
A fascinating account of the history and natural history of the magnificent ancient yew trees at St Michael’s Church, Farway in East Devon, all part of the Great Trees Project, run by East Devon District Council. Yew trees propagate in such a way that technically they never die, hence their association with Christian sites. And there’s also an intriguing connection with Queen Elizabeth 1. She only introduced guns into the country because Europe had run out of yew wood to make the traditional English long bow!
